At the Spa!

Georg and Heddie (Hedwig) had their first spa day Saturday, and they came out looking lovely. My groomer said they were perfect little angels, sitting still while their ears were cleaned and their nails trimmed. They turned out very fluffy and smelled so good, especially after the muddy week we had last week.

They are both somewhat shy when they first meet people, but they warm up quickly. My neighbor’s grandchildren had them doing their sits and downs and taking treats in a very short time.

Heddie likes to cuddle and sit on my lap, where she is safe from my seven month old springer, Fletcher, who is enthralled by her and never leaves her alone. But she does venture out to play with the boys, and she holds her own. She really comes alive when she is outside. She loves to stalk Georg and then take him down with a flying leap. She definitely has the upper hand over Georg when they are outside.

Georg is a little more independent. He will grab a toy and climb up on the couch where he seems to be daring Heddie or Fletcher to try to take it away from him. He and Fletcher get into wrestling matches, with Georg grabbing hold of Fletcher’s long ears and hanging on for dear life.

Both Georg and Heddie have healthy appetites and are doing well on Northwest Naturals turkey. They are both food motivated which makes training easier.

New Playing Ground

Georg and Hedwig have arrived at their new foster home, that can give them loads of special attention. Here's the first report from their foster mom:

After a somewhat shaky start, things are going well. I was concerned that
Fletcher in his exuberance to play would end up mauling the puppies, but
they have set him straight, giving back as good as they get.

I crate them at night and keep them in an xpen during the day, letting them
out periodically to go potty and to play. The xpen is good to give them a
break from Fletcher. They have eaten well. I will be increasing their
food intake. I weighed them this morning, and they both weighed 11 pounds
so they should be getting about a pound of food a day. I am going to be
adding some fish oil starting tomorrow because they are a little itchy,
which is probably from the dry air.

Potty training is off to a fairly good start. We are also working on sits.
